Stairs and 1st Floor
It is on the stairs that one starts to appreciate the workmanship
of the eighteenth century joiners when, at the half landing,
the stairs split into two, one going back on itself to the
right and the other to the left - hence the name, a bifurcated
staircase. The middle of the half landing is dominated by
the huge Georgian picture window gazing out over the cobbled
courtyard and the outbuildings beyond. The stair steps feature
decorative ropework and carved scallop shells, a theme that
continues on the top landing with lovely plaster cornices
decorated with scallop shells, sea anemones and starfish.
From here you can access the five bedrooms:
Bedroom 1
This room has a traditional 4 foot six double bed, wardrobe,
dressing/writing table and an en-suite shower and toilet.
Two sash windows overlook the garden and drive
The Tudor Bedroom
This
is the largest of the five rooms and has a magnificent full
tester four poster bed. There is a large Regency period wardrobe,
a chest of drawers of the same period, and sofa bed. The room
is serviced by a private shower room situated just across
the hallway.
There are stunning views across the front garden to the Northeast
aspect and also the Northwest as far as the Drimoleague Mountains
in the far distance.
Principal Bedroom Suite
This is a lovely bright room on the south western corner of
the house
where
the guest can choose (in advance) either a pair of three foot
single divans, or a six foot double. There is a large double
period wardrobe with lots of shelf space, a dressing/writing
table and a divan/chair which could accommodate a child if
necessary. Two large windows give lovely views over the rolling
countryside to the Northwest and the front lawn and woodland
to the south. The bathroom for this bedroom is a large converted
bedroom next door, so it is much larger than usual, at 18
feet by 14 feet. It has a full size bath with shower screen
and shower rose. The old fireplace is still in place with
its original over mirror, a toilet and wash basin and also
a Futon seat (a fold down Japanese bed).
