Tennis
The nearest court is just 500 yards away on the Barryroe
Parish playing fields. A hard court, it is available at no
charge throughout the season. If grass is your forte, you
will find the only public grass courts in Ireland in Timoleague.
The indoor courts at Clonakilty Leisure Centre are superb
and there are further courts at Lissard, Rosscarberry, Kilbritain
and Bandon.
Bird Watching
Timoleague is a mecca for this activity in West Cork, but
the whole area is blessed with an astonishing amount of bird
wildlife. Being situated on the Gulf Stream, we have an almost
sub tropical climate, giving rise to water fowl of all kinds
which congregate in droves in Autumn and Winter.
There are also the full supporting cast of birds of prey
in West Cork, due to the huge numbers of migratory birds.
Even here it the House, the Peregrine Falcon is a frequent
visitor due to the amount of Pigeon living in our woods. The
smaller Kestrel also hunts in the gardens, which are full
of all sorts of small birds all year round.
There are huge tracts of wild country just minutes away from
us, totally unspoilt and full of birds of every description.
So bring your binoculars, monoculars, telescopes and cameras,
whatever the time of year you visit.
Traditional Music
No
visit to Ireland would be complete without a visit to a pub
to listen to some traditional Irish music. Locally, sessions
are held in Mary O'Neil's in Butlerstown village, with other,
impromptu sessions taking place in one of Timoleague's six
pubs. Slightly further afield in Clonakilty, there are two
music clubs, one in O'Donovan's Hotel in the main street,
and the other a few doors down in De Barra's. Both these venues
attract top class Irish performers in all the various disciplines,
and operate 7 days a week, during the summer months..
There are many more activities
to be had in the area...
