Outside this immediate locality, but within a 5-mile radius
are two villages that have a number of shops and stores offering
a wide range of goods and services in both Courtmacsherry
and Timoleague. There are two Towns within a 20 minute drive,
Clonakilty and Bandon.
Courtmacsherry
Out of the drive over the main road and straight on. Past
the ruin of Liselan church to the main road and turn right.
Drive to the village at the bottom of the hill and turn left
along the sea front.
Golden Pheasant Crafts
The first on your left is this delightful craft shop, full
of good quality Irish produce from pottery to hand woven sweaters,
cards, books, and a host of goodies that one would probably
expect to have to travel to a good sized town to purchase.
Newsagents
Next one along the road and just opposite the entrance to
the harbour and pier head. Full range of all the newspapers
7 days a week but closed Sunday afternoon. Also a good stock
of foodstuffs and postcards etc.
Timoleague
Dominated by the ancient ruins of the old Priory, which was
sacked by Cromwell during his Irish Campaign, this delightful
and bustling little place has a number of very useful shops
worth remembering.
“Day to Day”. Mini Supermarket
& Filling Station
On
the approach to the village on the main road to your left,
is a new and bustling supermarket and general food store.
Open from 8 am through to 10am, this well stocked & brightly
lit store offers a delicatessen, off-license, bakery, newspapers
and most items you could possibly want.
Pad Joe's Off Licence
Drive past the service station, turn next right and into village,
first on right is Pad Joe's. A well stocked booze shop with
a Pub next door.
Harte's
Butchers
Probably the best quality fare that you will find anywhere
in Cork County. There are a number of other outlets in Timoleague
including a Chemist, and a small AIB Bank, (open mornings
only - in season), Post Office and Newsagents.
Ummera Smoked Products (www.ummera.com)
Drive past the ruins of the Priory (on your left) to a “T”
junction. Turn right over the bridge and drive for 1.5K. Turn
left before Harringtons Inn and travel to Inchybridge. Lookout
for a small wooden fishing hut, and drive straight on to an
unmade gravel road for 300 meters and turn left to the Ummera
Smokery. This is where one can still buy the genuine Wild
Oak Smoked Salmon & smoked chicken. Simply delicious,
and a taste probably forgotten if one has dined on farmed
salmon for any length of time.
