Wander in total privacy through your own grounds and woodlands
(under restoration).
The House stands in around 12 acres of its own grounds, approached
by a tree lined avenue. Immediately surrounding the house
is a mature well-kept garden, with the south lawn providing
a peaceful seating area, where one can read, stroll, play
a game of croquet (weather permitting), or simply relax and
enjoy the views.
As
well as the manicured lawns on two sides of the House, there
is also an original walled garden of around an acre in size.
This garden now houses the purpose-built helipad, available
for guests' use if required. Within the garden, there are
some fine old apple trees which still bear an abundance of
fruit, as well as our own summer garden produce. We have recently
installed a 30 foot poly tunnel in this garden, and 2005 should
have an abundance of tomatoes, cucumber, basil, tarragon,
peppers and chilies, and salad greens. We are striving to
move to organic production, refusing to use chemical sprays
or fertilizers. .
Below
the House is the woodland which stretches away in a crescent
shape for about one third of a mile from the back of the house.
The top half is accessible and is inhabited by foxes and badgers,
both of which can be spotted either in the late part of the
evening or really early morning. The bottom section has been
targeted along with the top wood to undergo extensive felling
of old and diseased trees and scrub clearance. The long-term
aim is to plant upwards of a thousand native deciduous trees
and possibly just a few conifers of an unusual type. |
